Hiring a licensed contractor matters!

Accountability

By being licensed, that provides avenues if things go wrong. Insurances, bonds, to filing with the Contractor's Board, there are ways to ensure proper conduct.

Proof of insurance(s)

To be licensed, you must show a minimum insurance coverage and bond. This = protection to the property owner!

Pulls their own permits

A local building official can red tag a job and stop all work immediately if they have a reason to do so. What happens if your roof is open to the element and the job is shut down? Nothing good if rain comes!

Removes fear of possible penalties / fines

If you are in a county where a license is required over $3,000.00 and the ones doing the work are unlicensed, the state can fine those involved.

Reduces risk of getting a "tail light warranty"

If you use a non-licensed contractor and there are future issues, what ensures they'll come back? I have seen with my own eyes an annoyed contractor take a ringing phone and throw it in the trash after saying "it's problem after problem with them". Don't allow yourself to be on the other side of that ringing phone.

Raised chance of quality products / workmanship

Since there are insurances involved, you run a lower risk of someone doing a terrible job with cheap material.
